[9.070][ANSWERED] AP10 flapping

Now I don't think this is a really a beta issue, because if I remember correctly there is a thread on the Wireless Protection forum on this subject.

But seeing I am using the beta version here goes.
I have an AP10 and AP50 connected to the same UTM, the wireless  log is quite large and has many entries for the AP10, but very few for the AP50. This particular AP10 seems to need to be powered off after the UTM does a restart to get it to connect.
The other UTM also has an AP10 and an AP30 doesn't seem to suffer from this problem.

Might connect up the another AP10 just to see what happens, could be a little crowded, an AP50 and 3 AP10s all within 3 metres.

    I think I found the cause, but I will wait 24 hrs before declaring it fixed.

    When you setup a mesh network you need to enable STP on your network and the APs that are joining the mesh.
    Having tried to setup a mesh and failed because the mesh only works between AP50s and not AP10s or AP30s I failed to remove the STP enable function from each AP.
    The AP50 showed a high number of reconnects, but nothing much in the logs where as the AP10 had nearly twice as many reconnects and featured in the log.
    I disabled the STP function on each AP and the log entries have reduced significantly. The last entries for over an hour are configuration where as the previous period was all about AP10.

    This leaves a question which I would consider a bug and that is leaving a feature active in a device that can't use it eg STP for AP10 and AP30.

    What do you mean with "enable STP on youe Network"?

    I tried a AP50 Mesh Setup without the need of enabling STP on Switch port. I even asked Technial Sales at Sophos roadshow about this. STP on Switch port is not needed.

    Hi,
    the advice I received from the Astaro/Sophos team in this forum was you need STP enabled and the switch needs STP enabled to be able to pass the STP packets to the APs.
    The mesh requires STP traffic to be enabled. The mesh only works with AP50s.
    Let us hope one of the AP/wireless protection wizkids happens along and can clarify the situation?

    STP on Switch port is not needed.


    STP is needed and is enabled by default when you create a Mesh Network. [check printscreen]

    My Question is: is STP needed on the "Switch port" the AP50 is connected to. STP is needed within the MESH, AP50 tp AP50.

    But on the AP50 switch ports itself?

    Hi,
    you will need to enable STP on the switch ports, otherwise the protocol will not be managed by the switch and the AP50s won't see it.

    I don't remember STP being enabled by default when I attempted to build a mesh. Might have changed since the first beta release?
