Hi there,

Anyone any ideas that could be the Problem?

My UTM is running on VMWare with 6GB of RAM / 1GB Swap (which is full now)

Have a look at RSIZE:

  • dunno...I actually have my snort at default(which is one for a dual core vm) and 3 gigs of ram with no swapping..yet.  My issues when it happens in the http proxy.  Now i do have vm.swappiness=0 set as well.  however I've been able to drop the caches and i get my ram back from the http proxy...however if i never did the cache dumps i would be shewing into swap pretty badly as well.  UTM9 has some serious coding errors so i would think that you could throw tons of ram at it..but the resulting swapping is inevitable right now.

  • Hi William,
I am not sure what you mean about this version has serious memory issues. My utm has been up for 7 days and swap is 330m eg doesn't show on the graph. This is a lot lower than v9.000.
I run http proxy in transparent mode, IPS, dual anti virus, pop3 and smtp mail scanning as well as other stuff.

they haven't done a release to address the rampant and known memory issues in this beta yet..until they do my statements stand..due to not only other poster in this thread but my own well documented research.  The next beta release will hopefully begin the process of sophos beginning to properly regulate their ram usage.  i don't think the ram hungriness of the product can be eliminated due to the large codebase sophos has become..but the persistent memory leaks can be addressed.
