[9.060][CLOSED] ADSL and IPv6 breaks

I have rebuilt this UTM 3 times now to try and get past the hanging when I change the external interface to ADSL PPPoE with IPv6 enabled.

The AP10 connects for a short while then the power light just keeps flashing. I cannot ping the interface or even get an IP address from the DHCP server.

I would post logs if I could get into the box, but I can't. From testing though, it would appear as though the interface hangs causing the UTM to hang. Top shows lots of activity. At one stage I saw a message on the console about interrupt 16 being disabled. Also I get a message about the hotspot which I didn't get on this UTM.

    Log files would be very helpful, e.g. boot via grml ISO and copy the files from disk.
    Or is there a backup you imported or any steps I could try to reproduce?

    Hi Ulrich,
    The configuration is
    an ADSL modem/router in modem router mode with IPv6 enabled uses radv.
    The ethernet interface connects to the UTM using cable modem with IPv6 enabled.

    I build the UTM, restore the from the previous v9.004-034 on this hardware.
    Then try to change the interface to ADSL (PPPoE) with IPv6 enabled.
    Then if I am logged into the console I can use top, but the update is very slow. Trying to use ifconfig on the external interface indcates there is something wrong because the display is very slow in updating almost tty speed.
    The UTM hardware is built round an intel itx server board running 4gb, i3 3220 and an SSD and two onboard Intel NICs.

    Whats the interface type before you change it to PPPoE ?

    The current term is ethernet static with IPv4 and IPv6 gateways.

    Is it working with Ethernet static? Do you switch your ADSL Modem to PPPoE mode after switching the interface type to PPPoE in WebAdmin?

    Will try to reproduce this issue

    1st time I started with the modem and then the external interface. 2nd time started with the external interface and never got to the modem. I did disconnect the modem to see if that would help, but no it didn't.

    On the main UTM, where I tried with a clean build, the modem was in bridge mode and power cycled each time. I did post the logs in that thread.

    Sorry but I cant follow you here. The posted log file just shows a non reachable ADSL AC. This could be anything. Having the mdw-debug log file would be very helpful.

    a) Is it working with Ethernet static?

    b) Do you switch your ADSL Modem to PPPoE mode after switching the interface type to PPPoE in WebAdmin?

    Note: Ethernet and PPPoE are totally different access technologies

    I am aware that they are different technologies.

    On the utm that locked up I am unable to get any files.
    The issue arises when I change the interface type from static to PPPoE.

    On the utm that I posted the log for I have attached the mdw file.
    On this unit I tried two different ISPs. Both had pppoe and ipv6 enabled from the beginning, no change of interface type. When I restored the backup the internet connected without any changes to the configuration.



    Note: Ethernet and PPPoE are totally different access technologies

    I still don't get it why a working Ethernet ISP link should still work when switched to PPPoE mode, sorry.

    Where did you attach the MDW log file? Can you mail please the log file?

    I tried to reproduce this issue by having a working Ethernet interface and switching it to PPPoE, but nothing breaks on my system...

    Hi Ulrich,
    I will try and explain it a different way.

    I installed UTM 9.060-024 on existing box. I restored the backup.
    I then changed the external interface type to PPPoE with IPv6 enabled and the UTM locked up. I rebuilt the box and tried again and with the same result.
    I rebuilt the box a 3rd time and restored the backup and it works fine.

    Conclusion there is something wrong with the ADSL PPPoE and IPv6 combination.

    Now Whity has had the same problem and posted a work around.

    On seperate subject the mdw file was a .gz  created by the other UTM.
