[ANSWERED] Health HeartBeat

My question is with the health heartbeat, is this going to be proprietary, only working with Sophos Endpoints, or will it connect with the Windows Health Service?

I hoping that it will be with the Windows health service, as it will make it far easier to upgrade, and attractive to deploy everywhere, as we don't have to rely on all offices using Sophos Endpoint... Of course, if its tied to Sophos endpoint, it'll be just another 'could have been'.

    Hi Rstokes,

    Heartbeat is a Sophos technology and it is the first  vendor that provides this kind of mechanism. Only Sophos E.P will be able to talk with Firewall and viceversa.

    You have to look at a NAC product to manage Windows or other security checks. Have a look at Windows NAP role.

    Hi RStokes,

    The security heartbeat will only work with Sophos endpoints. we don't have any plans to make this an open standard at this time. Also keep in mind security heartbeat is not just health from the endpoint reported to the firewall, but firewall and endpoint both share intelligence with each other, so they can both make better security decisions.

    Thanks good - It would be useful to have a feature that also works with the Windows heartbeat, but now you have explained more abut the Sophos implementation, it does make more sense.

    QUESTION: Will it just be the UTM Endpoint thats supported, or the Traditional Sophos EP? As we currently have Sophos managed with Enterprise console, [possibly will consider Sophos cloud in the future].

    It will only be cloud managed endpoint to start. We're migrating UTM managed endpoint to use cloud managed endpoint in Copernicus. That's one of the V1 gaps, as you can't push web policy into cloud yet - but we'll address that in the next version. 

    We are looking at adding heartbeat support in SEC managed endpoint, but that's not yet decided.

    Thank you Alan. I was quite sure that HeartBeat would work with Endpoint managed by SEC [:O][:O][:O]. We have a lot of customer with them (and they will not move to Cloud for the next years) so HB will be a nice feature If it will support Sophos EP SEC too. Please add it !!! Also if you develop for one version is easy to develop for other EP versions too. Think about it!

    OK, we'll see how it goes. Would be a plus point for SEC. As we were considering migrating to Bit Defender on the next AV renewal.
