Can this be done?

Hi,
     When an user opens the browser and try to access a website he should be presented with a login page and there the credentials should be entered and  can access the internet. Can this be done? what is Astaro authentication agent? is it closely related with what i am asking?

    Not with the essentials version.

    You would need to buy a subscription for one of the options.

    actually we are using Astaro security gateway version8 is it same as essential firewall edition?

    Hi,
    the various type of ASG
    1/. home user - 50 users, unlimited functions.
    2/. essentials - a basic ASG with packet filtering, NAT, manual updates and some other things, free to business. Basically a teaser.
    3/. for buisness/schools etc the subscription system where you pay for various functions and size of box or licence for build your own.

    All of these can be ASG v8.*** or even 7.*** if you want to. All units require a licence.

    This forum is for the essentials. There are a number of other forums for the various features/licences etc that you would be better of posting your question in.

    Hi,
    if I understand it right, you are looking for a transparent HTTP-Proxy with authentication.
    This can be done with the ASG, but you need a WebSecurity subscription. If you haven't one, call your preferred reseller.

    Astaro Authentication Agent can also be used to authenticate a user and allow him to pass the HTTP-Proxy. But it has to be installed on every client. So I guess transparent Proxy with authentication is what you are looking for.

    also you didnt mention if you want to change browser settings or not. If you only have a few users and want to do just local authentication on the ASG itself for name/password. You didnt say if you had your own auth server or not.

    The most basic way is to change the browsers to "proxy" to IP:8080 and use local authentication, from there your complexity goes up depending on if you have your own auth server or not, and if you want to change browser settings or not.

    the auth agent just moves the auth proces to the client, and probably isnt the fit your looking for here as the first choice.
