help Setting up V8 on verizon dsl { WAN SETTINGS}

Astaro is an enterprise class UTM, you won't see guides on how to configure it with every home/office router but its pretty simple to do.

Options: 

1.You can either change your modem to bridge mode and then use the pppoe client on astaro.
2. Leave everything the way it is and use cable modem/dhcp client option on astaro and your modem will probably assign it an address from 192.168.1.xx range.
3. Assign a manual address to astaro eg. 192.168.1.222 subnet /24 default gateway 192.168.1.1 and check use ipv4 default gateway.

I would go with option 2 or 3. You will be double natting but it will work till you get a little more familiar with basic networking.

 After this, I would go in the modem and setup static NAT under dmz settings (not IP passthrough, it doesn't play nice with astaro dhcp client) and put astaro's IP there. The pros of setting up double nat is that your gateway is still your router and you can still look at your stats and change configurations etc directly. In bridge mode, you won't be able to see your modem.

Thanks for the response just for clarity when you say Assign Manual address to astaro where do i do this or are u talking about the 192.168.2.100 ip that is used to login to web admin.

I have attached a screenshot. One interface was assigned during initial setup, now you will have one interface left. Make it look like the screenshot1 for static or  screenshot2 if you want your westell to assign dhcp. Your interface might be eth1 depending on the initial setup.

Edit: Sorry didn't read your whole question. Yes, this is the WAN interface. Leave the 192.168.2.100 as the IP to login to webadmin and assign WAN either dhcp or static. 

Just an FYI, Since your router is wifi enabled, the wifi traffic will go directly via westell and astaro won't be used for that.

great i used the static i know have eth2 up / down 

any ideas do i need to make any changes/ entries  under masquerading rule ?

You will have to masquerade Lan Network to External interface. You will also need some packet filter rules to get you started. 
Network security-> NAT->Masquerade, new masquerading rule 
Network: LAN Network
INTERFACE External
Use address: Leave as primary

Don't know if you ran the wizrd to create any rules but just in case, I also suggest you create a LAN rule at position 1(rules are processed from top down) while you are learning astaro,

 under Network security -> packet filter --> rules-->New Rule

Source LAN Network (whatever you called your Internal Network)
Service ANY
Destination ANY
Action ALLOW
LOG Traffic YES

This will essentially turn astaro into what you have right now. Just a router so all traffic will go out. Add more rules after you read the manual/become familiar with astaro and delete the above rule since it is a big no no for any firewall.

You can turn on http/s proxy under web security and run it in transparent mode (not full transparent) and add LAN Network to your allowed networks. Astaro is fully functional for 30 days so you can try this stuff and hopefully would like all the features to invest in virus protection and maybe URL filtering.

We have a few folks that visit these boards that can quote you the prices for hardware/software if you ever decide to expand your feature set for your business.
