not timing out unless you are on the dashboard and that large of a memory leak?  that's two important bugs right there.

WIlliam, I think they decided to make it so that you could leave the Dashboard up in a window and not have to "tickle" it to keep it up, but to continue to timeout everywhere else.  I agree that that's a bit of a security exposure though.  That gives me an idea for a feature suggestion...

Ian, I often leave the Dashboard up for days on my PC at the office, but haven't seen that memory leak.  Can you think of what I might do to reproduce your discovery?

where have you been hiding?

I found this by accident on the essentials box at work. I was running Vista 32 on a laptop connected to it. This was left running overnight, basically doing nothing. The essentials box has 1GB so memory creep comes to your attention very quickly. It normally sits around 19%.

I found I could do a similar thing with the v8b and my windows 7 ultimate 64 PC. It is harder to tell memory creep with 4gb, but over about 5 hours memory went from approx 22% to 28%. I was surfing, audio streaming etc.

2 very differently physical and as well as software configured ASGs. The only common thing is they are both running Intel NICs on the internal interface.

Hey, Ian - sometimes real life gets in the way of playing here! [;)] During the "Adventures with IPS" show on Friday, I was attending (when I wasn't outside on my cell phone) the Commencement ceremony for my son's graduation from the Universiy of Colorado in Boulder.

Before, during and after, I was working with the new IT guy for a client, with him helping me to move them from V6.313 on dying hardware up to V7.504 on new hardware.  Then, when I thought we had the rest of the week to finish, increasing hardware problems with the old system caused the VP to promise the CEO that the new unit would be up in 24 hours - nothing like a deadline to provoke a little creativity!  Anyway, we hit their goal, and finished up yesterday.  I felt almost smug about the whole thing because they didn't really believe I could do it without being there (500 miles away) and for such a minimal fee compared to what they pay to get stuff done on their Cisco gear.  It's not that I charge so little per hour, just that Astaro lets you get a lot done quickly! [:)]

I have a Vista 32 laptop that I think I've left connected overnight without seeing what you saw, but I'll give it a try tonight and be sure to check in the morning.

Gave the essential box another 500mb of ram, restarted it and memory usage still creeps up with webadmin page open. Started at 19 % ended up at 28% before I shut the laptop down for the weekend.

Overnight, I tested IE7 on Win XP with V7.504 and found no change in RAM usage.  Tonight, I'll try V7.504 with my Vista laptop.

FWIW, I saw exactly the same memory creep a month ago.
I saw it in the daily report, and after scratching my head realized that it correlated with an open session, after I closed the browser the memory usage dropped to normal levels quite quickly. I left it logged in again for a few hours and it started creeping again.
I believe it was on a WinXP sp2 unit with the latest FF but my recollection is fuzzy.

Ditto here.  I have recently started using the Mail Security functions, and on Saturday I left a couple of sessions open at the Dashboard and Mail Manager screens.  When I got my Weekly Executive Report last night I noticed the memory and swap usage had started creeping up, but fortunately I remembered seeing this thread a couple of days ago; I closed both sessions and they dropped back down almost immediately.
