[sw129][ANSWERED] how to configure cable modem in basic setup?

I got stuck at the activation when trying to configure my internet uplink. How do I configure a cable modem (DHCP client) in basic setup?

Additionally why can I only select eth2 as WAN? I know that hardware appliances define eth2 as WAN, but that's not the case for VM or software appliances - give people the freedom to choose themselves.

By default the second interface (eth1 / PortB) is DHCP enabled, so if you just plugged cable into eth1 / Port B it should be able to get IP Details from DHCP Server and should be able to activate appliance, without basic setup.

Yes, I also tried to use the 2nd port but that didn't work either. Activation didn't succeed.

Are you able to see IP address assigned to 2nd Port (Eth1/PortB) from DHCP server,

You can verify the same from Console, 

Select Option 1 from Console and verify the same.

You can also verify Internet Connectivity from Console

Select Option 4 and try to ping your Gateway or other destination.

What is option 1 and option 4? My ISP does not provide static IP service.

I can't found guide, can't found command in device console. So, failed register.

you need to select option 1 after login into ssh to enter Network Configuration, from where you can verify your ip address assigned on ETH1

alternatively you can verify the same from advanced shell.

Also verify your DNS servers

I had to pull some trickery as well. After the appliance had been initialized, I changed the IP from the console. This somehow seems not supported, as changing the LAN interface from the default 172.16.16.16 before activating / registering the device makes it so you cannot store the WAN settings. No matter what you do, they wont work. That is, until you reset the LAN settings back to 172.16.16.16. Then the appliance magically stores the settings you do for the WAN link.

Which brings me to another problem. After the device is setup to have internet access, it then requires you to register your device with Sophos. This happens from the client however... Which... doesn't have internet at this stage of the game. At least, mine didn't. I had to get my client an internet connection another way to register the device with sophos. Only then could I go back and finish the configuration.
