[ANSWERED] First Impressions

Hi Sophos,

I'm popping this here to note down things as I think of them. It will be a bit of a brain dump.

- New interface feels like it was built by graphic designers to look pretty, rather than by human interface specialists to be functional.
I completely accept that I am looking at it with 5 years of Astaro legacy behind me, but I shouldn't have to stare at an icon for 5 minutes trying to work out what it means. Yes, text labels need to be localized/translated but I can see what they are for immediately. (Actually, you have alt-text that needs to be localized anyway so you're already behind labour-wise after having to design an icon, and then put in a text label anyway).

- You're warning me that I haven't changed the default password, but not telling me where to change it.
Perhaps Objects - Users ? nope.
Maybe the "admin" drop-down in the top right? nope.
Is it under System - Administration.... Oh there it is. Buried 3 menus deep under Appliance Access.

    - The ability to turn a DHCP server off without deleting it seems to have disappeared.
    If i'm testing something and I need to disable DHCP, I really don't want to have to enter all the settings again. I suppose I could set the Interface to none, but that means I am changing the config. That just seems wrong.

    - Harking back to my first item...
    The breadcrumbs at the top of the screen don't appear to be functional. I would have thought I could use them as a quick navigation system, rather than invoking the full menu.

    - Default IPSec policies don't match up with UTM 9.x
    Given there will be a significant overlap period with UTM 9.x and Copernicus, I would have thought it wise that out-of-the-box settings match up as much as possible. Not one default IPSec profile in Copernicus supports AES256, yet it's 3rd in the list in UTM 9. This means I have to go and create a policy rather than it "just works".

    Hi Matt, some good feedback so far. There are some nav points that we are looking at. We also have additional plans to improve the UI moving forward, but in this version there may be a few areas that aren't quite as seamless as we want. This sort of feedback is exactly what I'm looking for, so thanks for the time and effort so far!

    When it comes to VPN policies, we were a bit limited in what we could do in this release. VPN in particular, will be getting a lot of love in the next version of Copernicus. Your point specifically about the default policies is noted, and we're looking at it it.
