Firmware backup

Do the devices have a (not overwritable) backup firmware for the case an update fails because of lost power or whatever?

There are only very very few devices with such a feature, but really should be a must have for every device with a flashable firmware. Don't know why so many manufacturers don't do it. (Ok, because it costs 1$ more maybe ...)

Or, is there at least an other way to restore such a device?
