Depends, if you have a dedicated VLAN for example for your Accesspoints it shouln't be a problem, but it might be much more comfortable if you can set Static ip Adresses, yes.
Seems to me that it shouldn't matter much if the APs have DHCP addresses. Since administration is primarily done in WebAdmin, you can always get it there. Direct SSH access will probably be the exception rather than the rule. A static MAC mapping on DHCP would do just fine.
Hmmm i have a realy strange behavior ... I can add accesspoints, after that, when i plug them out of my GS108T NetGearswitch and in again in my Netgear GS724TP, i can't get a connection to asg agian, i put a notebook on that whire to see whats the problem ... on my notebook, after a while i get a ip adress... maybe thats to long for the AP ... I have a NetGear GS724TP 24Port GBit PoE Switch ...
When i put the AP back to the GS108T it again gets an connection to the ASG...
I tried fiexed speed, no auto neg, any setting but i didn't get him to work on that switch ..
Hmmm verry good question, didn't find the setting for that ...
and i have the same behavior on a linksys SRW208P
What i can say, i have had bevor i installed the astaro AP's, AP's from EnGenius 3360, which have the same formfactor and running dd-wrt, which works perfectly ...
Got it, it was realy a Spanningtree problem ... sorry for that, but was realy not easy to find ... system setting was "off" but on the port it was "on" and it seems that this firmware on that switch ignores the "global" setting [[:)]] maybe they should make beta tests on there firmware too [[:)]]
