[8.285][NOTABUG][CLOSED] External interface won't come up when using DHCP

Background

I have been running ASG 8.103 on hardware for a while - runs well.
I installed ASG 8.103 as VM on esxi 5.
Made sure the MAC of the external connection was same as hardware box.
Imported config , moved cables - everything works fine.

Now for the Beta

I installed the latest 8.290 as VM on same esxi 5.0 host
I set the MAC address of the external interface the same as it was on the existing ASG 8.103. 
Imported config, turned off the 8.103 VM and turned on the 8.290.
External interface is marked as down and there was nothing I could do to bring it up.
Re-booted DSL modem (note it is a modem so it is bridging connection to the ISP.) - No effect.
Tried renewing the lease from the ASG  - no effect.

This is the same as I saw when I tried using 8.201 and 8.202 on the physical box.  Something is different in the DHCP client that does not allow it to be connected when there is a lease existing.


UPDATE:  I used an XP instance where I cloned the MAC address and connected this to my WAN  (disconnected the ASG ).
The XP got the same DHCP lease as the ASG 8.103 instance had.
I then did a ipconfig /release to force a release of the lease.

Disconnected XP and re-connected the ASG 8.290 interface

This worked - the 8.290 now has the external interface  "UP"

    Well at least we can be sure this is not an Astaro issue, but some security validation from Verizon [:)]

    As I wrote before, the only differences between 8.1 and 8.2 are the Hostname and Client Identifier DHCP option. If you want you can check again, if one of them or both are used by Verizon to identify the same host.

    Your Windows system worked, so its probably the Client Identifier option.
    On the other hand Verizon has a lease time of 2 hours. Maybe you were just lucky
    and hit the right time frame [;)]
