[8.165][QUESTION][ANSWERED] Has anyone tested QOS with VoIP?

Hi All,

I have a Vonage line and it is breaking up when HTTP sites are accessed. I have tried enabling QOS but not been successful. Briefly, my VoIP system is on it's own network and I have tried to give that network priority, but that didn't help.

I am new to Astaro ASG and new to VoIP so I may be doing something wrong. If someone else has QOS running successfully I could use some tips.

Hi,
the attached screenshots are from my QOS settings. They seem to work eg no-one who uses them complains the voice quality at the moment.

You'll notice that Ian is reserving 96 kbps. Most VOIP implementations need a minimum or 75 kpbs, so scale your reservation accordingly based on the number of expected concurrent calls.

Hi Ian, can you explain why you created a new traffic selector instead of using the default VOIP one?

Hi Barry,
The answer for the moment is quite simple, but it isn't a long term answer. My ASG only has the traffic selectors I created. Now I do remember sometime in the past there was a range of traffic selectors, but don't remember seeing a default VOiP selector.

I think that you have discovered a bug eg no default traffic selectors in the current QOS listing, unless they have been moved to application control, which I didn't look at.
