Hotfix: Astaro Endpoint Security on updated 8.165

Hi all,

as mentioned in my previous post on the availability of our technical preview for Endpoint Security, there was a bug if you wanted to use the up2date package.

Those of you who updated from 8.614 to 8.615 now can use the following hotfix from our ftp-server ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/ASG/v8/beta/hotfix/epp_rpms.tar

After downloading pleas make sure to:

[LIST=1]
  • Copy epp_rpms.tar to ASG with scp
  • log in to ASG with SSH
  • Unpack with: tar xf epp_rpms.tar
  • become root: su
  • run install.sh script contained in the tarball (will install RPMs and create epp database): ./install.sh
  • might need to start epsecd with (if endpoint security is already enabled): /var/mdw/scripts/epsecd start

    Darn and I did a fresh install for nothing!  [:D]  LOL, oh well, I'm pretty good at it by now.  Question though is there going to be more with the Endpoint Security?  Like the ability to control more of the system?  Also will there be Linux and Mac client installs when the final version is released?

    I was told there would be Mac version of the Endpoint Security so there better be.

    Well, that's right regarding the Mac version and of course as we are in technical preview state, there are pretty sure more features in the release version. Actually I would love to hear what you would like to see in it [;)] ...

    I just got a text box to try this out on.  Let me examine everything and I'll report back as to my wish list.

    I would like to see
    - a detailed log for the user at the endpoint so that he is informed what was blocked and logged
    - a button for the user to ask for more rights (please unlock my usb for example)
    - a info-popup for actual messages like security-messages send and saved by the astaro (for example RSA SecurID-Tokens will be changed please contact us for more informations)
