In addition to all the things you mentioned, there will be a long-planned company-wide event during the next week, so the bugfixing will slow down a little bit more.

... so we (the beta testing crew) have some guidance as to what is happening with bugs and testing?

As of now (Wednesday afternoon), 92 of 98 issues that we plan to address with the upcoming Version 8.165 are already  resolved (that's ~ 93%), but only 18% of them have been tested internally. A huge chunk of those issues are Endpoint-Security related changes, and it is completely new code, and as always: the larger the change, the larger the chance that it breaks something. Long story short: We're really busy.

I can't promise that we release 8.165 this week. I hope that we can do so, but we haven't tested the Reporting and Application-Control fixes yet. And i agreed with Frank (our release manager) to not push out a new version until we have those two issues fixed.

So, if you feel that the beta has slowed down a bit, then, yes, you're right. If you suspect Sophos behind it, then you are completely wrong. We had just too many meetings during the last week to catch up with everything.

no, there wasn't any conspiracy theory behind the thread. As with any change staff updates are important. The many I went threw always brought work to almost a standstill for a day or two.

It was more about the lack of activity in the reported bugs. In previous versions the various Astaro Team members were very active in asking questions about the reported bugs.
Besides the reporting issue, nothing much else has been questioned.

Agreed on the lack of activity. It almost feels like the 8.1 beta. I think wingman has found all the bugs in this beta so nothing to do for us[;)]

On a serious note, I was hoping for a reporting fix release this week but I guess no such luck. Running astaro without reporting is not easy specially when my ipv6 seems to be using very high volumes of traffic. Not sure if it is youtube or what. 

Is it possible just to release an rpm or two just to fix reporting? At this point I am seriously considering a roll back. Luckily my stability is not affected like some folks in this release so I am not sure which way to go.

You can blame be for that. [;)] It's my job to make them look at the forum and take care of certain threads. If i don't bring these topics up to their attention, they usually just do their coding/bugfixing work...

So, yes, you are right, i'm a little bit behind...

I can't say how thankful we all are that he takes the time to hunt down all those typos, spelling mistakes and the consistency related things that we often overlook because we are so used to it. We have a german word for this tunnel vision: 'betriebsblind', a word by word translation would be company-blind. [[;)]]

I was hoping for a reporting fix release this week ...

That bug is already fixed in the version (8.165-9) that we are testing here internally. The -9 in the release name does mean that this is the ninth try. And there are only 5-6 unresolved issues for that release. I really do hope that we get this out to you this week, because otherwise we would have to wait another week because of the company-wide event next week (btw: it's an Astaro event, planned before the merger), where all the developers will be too.

Is it possible just to release an rpm or two just to fix reporting?

No, because there are interdependencies between the affected code and the database and there have been schema upgrade in the database too, which also have to be reflected in the GUI. This alone would make up for a dozen RPMs, so sorry, there's no "just an rpm or two" solution here.
