[8.164][BUG][FIXED] system restart - reason unknown

Count me in for this as well... it just happened this morning.  I checked all logs for any indication and there was nothing.

PS. I have been running 8.164 since the up2date was released without reboots until today.

Something strange I've noticed, and maybe it's just a coincidence (that happens a lot in IT, lol), but it seems like it's more likely to have an unknown reboot if I was in the webui.  Last night it rebooted within about 30 minutes after I logged out and that's the first time I've been in it in a few days.  Thinking back to the other reboots I'm pretty sure it rebooted within a few hours of me being in the webui.  I don't have to be modifying anything, just being there seems to cause it.

Then again, as I'm sure many of you in IT know, sometimes what is perceived as the cause has NOTHING at all to do with the problem.  Had one the other day where I was modifying some things in Exchange then a user complained about a shared calendar problem minutes after I had finished.  Turned out it had nothing to do with my modifications and was their PC.

Anyway, to make a long story short, this is a random observation and may or may not have anything to do with the issue.  I would, however, be interested to know if anyone else has noticed this or if it's just my brain grasping for straws.  :/

My Astaro reboot occurred at 7:24 AM on a Sunday.... I hadn't been in the web GUI since Saturday afternoon.  I have only had one so far.

I'm up to 6 now with the one that happened just a few minutes ago.  [:(]  This is starting to get just a bit frustrating.  [:S]

@ Paul: I figured that it was just a strange coincidence.  Though the longer I work in IT the closer I come to needing a padded room.  [:P]

Yikes.... now it is two.... two days in a row.  I hope this isn't a sign that things are just going to get worse.  I don't want to go back to 8.10x.  [:(]

I searched the logs again and no "OOPS" messages or anything that would help.  I don't have HA running.  I wonder if this has something to do with the reporting bug.

I have been through all the logs at least 3 times and can't see anything at all that would indicate the reason for the shutdowns.  It's like someone has pulled the power, there is nothing at all logged about it shutting down, just it starting back up.

No HA running here either, just a standalone HP box I picked up cheap at the local computer store and slapped a couple more NICs in.

I agree Paul, I don't want to go back to 8.10x either but wifey is starting to get annoyed that the internet keeps dropping out so I might have to.  [:O]

I am also experiencing random restarts on my physical machine.

On my 2 other VM's of this update there is no issue.

I am seeing similar behavior. My esxi has been running since the release of 8.164 without any problems. Only physical hardware seems to be affected.

Billybob, I have an ESXi host and it is happening on it.  I ran fine for the longest time... then it started.  Last two days it has reboot on its own.  Crossing my fingers it runs fine until the next release.... it is getting a little inconvenient between the lose of reporting and the rebooting.  I keep debating rebuilding on 8.163 but I have lost enough history from rebuilds.... patiently waiting, if that is what you can call this, for 8.165.  I'm going to try and record the console screen tomorrow and if I can catch a reboot it may show something that isn't in the logs.

Thanks for clarifying Paul. Only thing different I have compared to you is that I am running VMXNET3 instead of E1000 adapters, not that it should matter.

The console should show a kernel panic for sure, hope you catch some important information.
