[8.164][BUG][FIXED] system restart - reason unknown

Update:

Alright, I have the serial console doing...well something.

Without the -r switch for mgetty I get what looks like a modem initialization string (that takes me back...):

\0x10\0x03+++ATQ0V1H0ATQ0V1H0\0x10\0x03+++ATQ0V1H0ATQ0V1H0\0x10\0x03+++ATQ0V1H0ATQ0V1H0

When I put the -r switch in (which I think it needs from the link you gave Barry) it doesn't seem to give much of anything.  I manually rebooted it and the only thing it gave me was some junk as the system was booting up:

x\0xf8x\0xf8\0x80\0x80\0xf8\0xf8\0x00

I'm using this in the /etc/inittab file for the modem:

s0:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/mgetty -x0 -r -s 38400 ttyUSB0

which I believe is correct because when I set my terminal program to 38400 8N1 I do get some output, just nothing that seems interesting or useful.

I have my terminal program connected and logging so I will see if it pukes out anything more useful the next time it reboots.  In the mean time, did I correctly configure things?  I'm using some USB to serial converts which is why my device is ttyUSB0.  I'm actually using this as the device on both ends since my receiving box is a Fedora Linux machine.
