[8.162][NOTABUG][CLOSED] HTTP Proxy performance

Hi,
I am finding the http proxy performance in this build to be very slow, when I have check the ASG I find that any slight use causes the CPU to increase markedly eg 1% to over 10%. As well the webadmin shows the CPU as to being around 5 -10% but the graphs show around 1 to 2%.

I have the local copy of the check database in memory. Now what am I comparing it to? At work I use the essentials ASG on a small test network and there the internet access is very fast. The line speeds are very similar to mine at home.

Yes, there is a lot debugging code, but surely not that much that slows the proxy down to the atage where this site becomes almost unworkable. Answering questions on threads I have created takes way too long. 15 minutes to answer one thread is just not user friendly.

    Come on Ian, you know that we need a little bit more information to find out what's going on there. Do you talk of bandwidth or latency? Which sites are you referring to? When did this happen? Did you try other sites during that time? Have you taken a look at the logfiles? What is your setup looking like? Which features do you have enabled? And so on..

    Hi kai,
    I know it was lacking detail, but with the timing missing form the http log it is very hard to quantify exactly what the problem is or even where to look.

    My setup.
    1/. http proxy in transparent mode
    2/. ADSL2+  5000/1000 using QOS for VoIP, mail and wow.
    3/. packet filters blocking ntp and dns so forcing users to use the ASG features
    4/. wireless in bridge mode
    5/. pop3 proxy with prefetch
    6/. smtp with smat host for users and notifiers
    7/. a problem with my IPv6 DHCP servers and address allocation
    8/. IPv6 via sixxs
    9/. 2 VLANS, one for users and one for VoIP
    10/. VoIP security enabled
    11/ spoof protection enabled on normal
    12/. local cff file in memory
    13/ dual virus scanning on everything
    14/. IPS

    Sites that I notice the performance on
    1/. Astaro UBB has become extremely slow, this has been getting worse for over a week

    The onions were burning, so had to rescue them.

    Complain and somebody fixes something. All of a sudden all the slow sites are working very fast including this one. Strange!! Puzzled?

    I mean fast like i haven't seen except without the proxy.

    Anyway this box is up for a re-build so I can get my IPv6 back. Waiting on Ulrich to let me know if he needs more files. Subject of another thread.

    www.dpreview.com forums pages are still very slow in loading, spend too much time waiting. Besides the kids still complain of poor performance from the http proxy.

    So our venerable UBB is the only site you checked? And now everything works again?

    Not quite true, I know the behavior of this site well because I use it at work through 2 different firewalls and at home. I was reviewing the current status of some of the other sites I was having a problem with and have been for a week or more and bingo trhey perfrom the same with or without eh proxy in line.

    Strange while writing a post about an issue, the issue suddenly disappears, love a good conspiracy theory, keeps the soap shows in business.

    Sites I was having a problem with besides the ubb are dpreview.com, pbase.com. Now the thread can be closed as all is well again.
