I installed the beta (8.162) today and attempted to restore from a 7.509 backup file with a USB key on first bootup. The boot process recognized the file as indicated in the console screen on startup, but it passed by the file very quickly and did not restore the file. I then attempted to log in to the GUI and after setting the hostname and admin password I chose to restore from a previous backup rather than do the setup manually. I chose the unencrypted .abf file, uploaded it, and clicked finish. The screen flashed briefly and it returned me back to the screen to chose to restore from backup or do the manual setup.
I then upgraded the original install from 7.509 to 7.510 and made a backup and repeated the process with the same results.
Finally I did a fresh install of 8.102, restored from the 7.510 backup successfully, then backed up the 8.102 install. Finally I did a reinstall from scratch of 8.162 and put the USB key into the front USB slot and it successfully restored from the 8.102 backup. I couldn't find in the documentation anywhere which version were supported in an upgrade and which weren't so I thought I'd report this to at least include in the docs.
