So, I dusted off my trusted old compaq workstation dual proc P3 1 GHZ with 1 gb ram that I do most of my beta testing on. Its old and bulky and just sits in my closet but is good for running most linux server distros. I do all my astaro testing on this box and it runs fine with astaro upto v 8.001.
Now when trying to boot from the cd, I get the error message
kernel panic - not syncing :VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,1)
This is just standard ide cd rom. I will try to reburn the image on a different burner at different speed later today just to rule that out.
Another thing that I noticed was that on initial screen where it loads the compressed kernel before the installation begins, it has always shown the load progress by using dots[...............................] On this version there is no progress indicator, it just hangs for a while and then kernel panic.
Even on the vm (virtual box) where I have a successful install, when you press ENTER to install astaro, nothing happens for a few seconds and then it just moves to the next screen into the astaro installer. There is no feedback after you push enter whereas in previous versions you could always see some indication of a loading kernel.
Added screenshots for initial loading screen and after you press ENTER you get no indication of anything till the "INIT:version 2.86 booting" pops up in the wrong spot. I have also added a screenshot from v8.000 where you can see the kernel actually loading.
Regards
Bill.
Edit: Screenshot 1 initially waiting for prompt, screenshot2 after you push ENTER to start installation and finally screenshot 3 with v8.000 installer
