[7.950][QUESTION][ANSWERED] IPv6 EUI-64 appears to be incorrectly formatted

Hi,
I have been trying to add a static IPv6 address to the ASG static list. This is required because while my mandriva (2010) workstation knows about IPv6 it can't handle autoconfiguration via DHCP. 

So this requires I build a modified EUI-64 (IPv4 equivalent is the MAC address). I look at the 2 automatically created by the ASG when using the ASG DHCP6 server to allocate addresses. Neither of those EUI have the same prefiix, nor do they have the FF:FE in the middle of the card MAC address.

While creating IPv6 addressing info by hand is pain you learn a lot, I think.

Is any of this making any sense to anyone?

My IPv6 subnet part is 2a01:***:***:a/64

Given the inconsistency in the formatting it is hard to build your own manual assignment.

    Hi Ian,

    are you mixing up EUI-64 and DUID? There are multiple types to generate a DUID,
    see the RFC for all types RFC 3315

    The DUID is normally generated from the first MAC address plus a timestamp.
    In contrast to DHCP in IPv4, the DUID is used for requests on all interface.
    This means DHCPv6 request via LAN and WLAN are using the same DUID.

    you are correct, but that leads to the next question.
    Are you using the DUID as the IPV6 MAC address?

    Based on the DUID being used in the ASG as the MAC address, then a user is hard pressed to create a manual static entry. I am aware that in the future when the world is a bit more IPv6 aware that devices will work with DHCP servers.

    Also the how does the use of the DUID go with the longer term aim of the IPv6 mob to use the IPv6 MAC as the IP address?

    I tried searching for details on the DUID, but all I got "driving under the influence".
