I've installed the latest 7.903 beta and restore from backup. I noticed the RAM usage has increased 10%. Also noticed packets filtered status shown 0 and the system has been running over 24hrs.
ah, okay... so it's not increasing memory usage on the 7.9xx series, but it's 10% more memory compared to 7.5xx. Now that makes sense to me. I guess your question is, where these 10% difference come from?
Well basically there are two major areas: - we've added new features - we've made (nearly) everything IPv6 ready. Even when the features and IPv6 are off, we need some memory to store their state, which basically means that they are off.
To find out where exactly these 10% come from you would have to look at the old and the new system at a much more detailed level and compare it side by side. If you didn't reboot after importing the backup, there's a small chance of wasting another few megs of RAM, but normally this should stabilize after 24 hours.
Understood, haven't considered those additional features added in v8. Anyway, I've change the anti-virus scanning from dual to single scan for both web and mail security and the memory usage has reduced down to 33%.
