[7.902][BUG][FIXED] remote access / PPTP

Hi,

I tried PPTP Remote Access under Version 7.901 via Windows 7 and it is not successfull at the moment.

The connections hangs at the step: "Username/Password verification"

I got no entries in the pptpd.log.

After updating to 7.902, I'll try again.

I tested a bit with 7.902 and Windows 7 - PPTP

If I create a new VPN Connection at Windows, and I choose "automatic" at the Security Tab, it does not work. I hangs at "Username/Password verification".
If I choose PPTP at the Security Tab, it works without any problems.

I tested with Windows XP and "automatic" configuration at the Security Tab > no problem at all. Connection is running.

Could you please try to modify the setting at the "Security" tab for the VPN connection.

Can confirm:

Setting to "PPTP" works, set to "automatic" fails.

On v7.504 "automatic" works!

Very strange, I'm not sure that this is a bug at the ASG.
 I set up a tcpdump on the ASG-interface, where the pptp should arrive.
 x.x.x.x is the external Windows 7 host, which tries to connect.
 
 tcpdump -i eth1 host x.x.x.x and port 1723
 
 If I set up the Windows dropdown with: Automatic
 >> no traffic is seen on the tcpdump
 
 If I set up the Windows dropdown with:  PPTP
 >> I see the traffic, everything is alright.
 
 I sniffed the packets on the client's interface but if I try the setup:  automatic, no packages were recognized for the connection.
 It seems that Windows is not sending packets for this connection.
 
A very strange fact is, that the connection is hanging up, and I'm not able to disconnect during the connection attempt (setup: automatic).
I have to kill the explorer process, and after that I have the possibility to disconnect.


 Has anybody an idea, which option needs to be modified?

Windows 7 introduced support for IKEv2. If you have IPsec running on the ASG, Windows probably tries to get a connection going with the IKEv1 daemon the ASG over and over again since both speak on UDP/500. Look at the ipsec.log to confirm this assumption.

Windows XP did not have support for IKEv2. Maybe even the order in which the different protocols are tried changed as well since then, I don't know.

Will have a look into the ipsec.log tomorrw (but I've only enabled PPTP - no IPSec or other)

If you don't have IPsec enabled you won't see anything in the log file.

That's what I expect to find - anything else would be a big surprise [;)]
