[7.901][BUG][CLOSED] Crash during installer

Hi,
I am trying to install the 7.901 iso on my hardware that is currently happily running 7.504.

During the installer it consistently crashes on the screen where you choose the NIC to host the management interface (internal LAN)

I have 2x Intel Gigabit CT adapters (PCI-E) and 1x Intel Gigabit GT adapter (PCI)

As soon as I highlight the Intel GT adapter on that screen it crashes out. I have found that if I am very fast and hit enter quickly it will load the next screen and then crash.

I'm not sure how to get a  copy of the log file at this stage of the install, but I could take a photo of the screen if it would help.

I have noted down what I believe to be the relevant information on the crash dump screen.

Error code 0x66/0x6c

Motherboard is a Gigabyte G31M-ES2L  Intel® G31 + ICH7 Chipset
CPU is Intel Celeron E3200
4GB Ram

Let me know if this helps or if I can provide more information. I understand this is probably not on the HCL but I hope the info can help out.

    Thanks for the hardware info. I talked to one of our kernel guys, and he gave me a tip on how to extract more details from that kernel crash:

    Do you have a second machine, maybe an old laptop, and a serial cable (cross-link), so that we can hook the two machines together? The log of the crash should be dumped out on the serial port of your machine, and the second then could write this to a text file. Without the full crash info it's hard for our kernel guys to find the cause of the crash.

    Yes, I have an old serial cable though I will have to use a usb-serial converter with it to connect to the laptop.

    I have hooked these up with windows xp hyperterminal but couldn't work out the settings to get a proper connection. I'm fairly sure the cable was working as during the hardware detection phase of astaro I got a heap of garbage characters come through to hyperterminal (I presume this was it probing the serial port).

    Could you post the directions to enable and setup serial debugging? I couldn't find the settings in the forum or manual.

    In the meantime, I have attached the USB-key install.zip dump that the installer gives the option of creating but this is before the crash occurs so will probably just be useful for exact hardware info.

    Since nobody had any info as to how to dump this from the serial port I wasn't able to dump out the install logs. I did find some generic linux instructions on the web but these involved editing the bootloader so I couldn't see how to do that without installing first.

    I spent a long time taking out NICS, changing slots etc but always got the same crash even on the latest 7.903

    Strangely I discovered it would always crash after a random amount of time, not when on any particular screen.

    While it could be just coincidence, I found that if I selected a Time zone other than my actual zone (Australia-> Brisbane), it seemed to last for much longer before crashing.

    After about 20 goes in a row I was able to get through the install, the system is now running quite happily and stably so I am happy but the underlying install problem is obviously still there.
