[7.866][BUG][SUSPENDED] Snort restarts approx every 15 minutes

Hi,
I have disabled IPS at this stage until someone can tell me that this has been fixed.

I suspect that the IPv6 issue as suggested by utm_kid is the cause. This issue only started after I started my PCs this morning. The PC is a W7 (64) with iPv6 enabled.

I am not sure why this only started this morning, possibly a dud pattern. I have posted details of a seg fault in the utm_kid seg fault thread.

are these Snort crashes coming from the module badtraffic.so?

Then this is a known issue (see the issues list -> Mantis #12216) that I have reported several versions ago. The crash occurs here every time I switch on any laptop connected through wireless LAN, for example.

You can work around this by deleting the file badtraffic.so...

you are correct. But why all of a sudden does it suffer this from my PC which I use daily and have so on every v8b release?

We're aware of this issue and have contacted upstream.
This should go away once we have V8 specific patterns (currently they are the same as V7).
