[7.850][BUG][OPEN] PPPoE won't work

Heyho,

my pppoe connection doesn't work under 7.850 and I don't know why. Here's the log ...

    Did you already try to reset your modem? I also use PPPoE and it works fine.

    BTW: Who are you; only 2 posts but invitated into this hidden forum?

    At first, it isn't a problem with the DSL-Modem, but sure I've restartet and resettet everything in my network ;-)

    As you can see in the log, PPP discovering works fine. The ASG can see the providers backend pppoe server "bbac-ko0" (in hardware it's a Cisco 7206/1G running IOS 12.4...) and is getting the right IP.

    Im testing on an ASG320.

    Hi Nils,

    this is a shrewd guess and i'm about the opposite of a kernel specialist - but judging from the pppoe source code, i would expect the error "Failed to create PPPoE socket: Protocol not supported" if, for some reason, your kernel happens to be lacking pppox support.

    Could you please show the output of the command:

    # lsmod | grep ppp

    In case pppox does not show up there, we have come a step further.  In that case, we must find out why the module is not loaded.  In that case, please also try

    # modprobe pppox

    then repeat the lsmod command to check the result and retry using your PPP connection.  If that helps, we need to talk to Florian when he is back from vacation how to fix kernel module loading.

    In case this does *not* help, is there any way how i can have a look at the machine?  Or can you provide complete /var/log/confd.log, mdw.log, pppoe.log and /tmp/confd-debug.log and mdwdebug.log privately to me, including a point in time where the problem occurred?

    keep this option last after u send log and other thing please try this things after u finesh u r all repoting to astaro staff 

    Sorry i am a expert but i am think what i will try if i am in u r position 


    1)normal switch or managed switch 
    2)adsl router/modem is in which mode 
    3)arp -a or arp -n show router mac /ip 
    4)if u have static ip ,u can try to connect u r router in bridge mode (not astaro's bridge )connect router to wan interface and u r public ip to wan card
    to ensure router work with u r asg hardware  
    5)i might be already connected as u can see remote connection with isp as it already connected it might give u error

    Hi Nils,

    the error message you are reporting ("Failed to create PPPoE socket: Protocol not supported") is definitely due to a failing socket(2) system call - so much is obvious without any kernel expertise, even though i don't currently understand why this purely local, not network-related call is failing.  Definitely, it's a local problem, and there's no need to do the extensive network debugging suggested in the previous post.
