[7.480][BUG][NOTABUG] vmware vsphere

so I have test ASG in vsphere 4

with other linux kernel 2.6 (64bit)

So vmware tools appear with "unmanaged" in the vsphere interface. but the shutdown guest or restart guest work good.

I have try adapter with E1000, vmxnet 2 or vmxnet 3 and only E1000 work. I could bee good that the vmxnet3 work because it offload some level of the ip stack to the physical adapter so better speed.

I also test vmware FT (Fault Tolerance) with it and it work very very well

I don't know if Astaro use LVM but it could bee interesting for virtual environement to have an option to upgrade the size of storage partition that is very easy to upgrade "physical"  size with an online VM

I have also test the new functionality hot add memory and cpu but the webadmin haven't seen the hot add memory... maybee that the kernel have seen it. I haven't seen any space wehre I can find the number of processor.

So you ask to test the ASGi n vsphere 4 here is my comments. If you can add all this feature you will definitely have the best virtual appliance of the "vmware market place"

    Why use "other 64-bit"? ASG is 32-bit. The VM-images of Astaro uses:
    - VM version 4 
    - Guest OS: other 32-bit
    - NIC's are the Flexible ones 
    - VM Tools are out of date [:D]

    Try this setup. I also prefer VMXNET3 NIC's, but maybe in the next release? I already mentiond this in a earlier thread....

    I have tried to run ASG on an ESXi server (Sunfire x4150) and the network throughput seems to cap at about 80kb/s per connection and I can only assume that has to do with the vmware NIC.  I run the thing on an older Pentium D with hyperthreading turned off and I get over 1mb/s.

    yes Fobe but in previous release of astaro 7.405 network adapter in E1000 didn't work. with beta 7.480 E1000 work find so nice think
    And astaro ask to make test with vsphere so in vsphere it is better to bee in v7 VM. you can use vmware Fault Tolerance only with V7 VM

    Chow11 I use astaro 7.405 on IBM 3650M2 with onboard nic broadcom with vlan encapulsation tip (vlan 4095 in the port group) between vlan and I never have better trougput than 200 Mbit/s with cifs file transfer [:)]

    so maybee a default in your nic duplex speed negotiation. if your server is not connected to a gigabit switch I advise you to config it in static negotiation 100 full on the ESX and the switch. It is the most current error
