[7.470][QUESTION][OPEN] Downloads speeds cut in a third through proxy

When using the proxy, the speed I get downloading is greatly reduced.

I usually get around 1/1.2M d/l speeds and through proxy, I am getting consistent 300-400K

...should this be expected?

EDIT:  this is in Safari 4.0.2 on MAC OSX 10.5.8
EDIT:  looks like I am experiencing the dropped large files as I read in some other posts....

    If you are in transparent mode, what happens if you put the test sites into the transparent mode skip list?  Which sites are you using to test this?  Instead of using one of those sites, have you tried timing the downloads for files both larger and smaller than the max scan size both through the proxy and without the Astaro in between?

    I've had a couple customers make the same comment, but I think it's just an idiosyncrasy of the way those sites measure throughput.  I'd be interested if you could demonstrate that there really is a problem.

    Let me see what I can do...

    In general, these downloads are coming from newsgroups that are already in the exclude/exception list.

    When looking at the interface, the reading is consistent with the download.  I will gather some snapshots...

    Here is a snapshot of in and out of proxy....

    Above / below scan size does not matter...MAX Scan size is set at 800M.  I would assume that by design, when placing in skip list, this would be moot.  I could be wrong, but by skipping the scan, size should be irrelevant.

    In any event, the story remains the same.  Are there any specific logs that I need to produce?  I can grab a dump on the interface attached to the Internet to help line up true throughput if necessary.

    removed the Astaro and ran through my Fortigate 60A.  Receiving consistent downloads as without proxy while still going through Astaro.  Those numbers ranged from 800K-1.2M once leveled out...

    Got to step out and do yard work...will check back later!

    easynews.com (zip manager)
    personal webserver on GoDaddy (downloading 200+M files and 1.2G files)

    I am able to pull 1.2 meg/sec on my FIOS through the proxy. I tested this by downloading vista sp2 while straming some video from hulu. I can get up to 1.7 meg/sec from MS most of the time.

    Of course, I can't do a speed test through the proxy, because it downloads the file for you and then sends it to you... giving y ou a super high download speed. (96784 kbps!)

    I am running a dual core 2.6ghz proc with 2 gigs of ram.
