[7.460][QUESTION][ANSWERED] manic WebAdmin caching has returned!

I had never really understood what you were referring to till I had this happen a few days ago. If you leave webadmin sitting idle for some time (didn't measure how long), when you come back and click on another tab, it will say caching objects. It will do it multiple times without any further input from the user.

This is not the same as when webadmin organizes drag and drop objects. I will try to get a screenshot capture next time if I am quick enough[:)]

Here is a screenshot. I was on packet filter screen. Came back after a while and clicked on mail security pop3. Its caching objects. It will cache and first show the mail security main screen, then cache again and go to the pop3 page. FWIW my pop3 is not even active so should not have any effect on the test.

the same behaviour is in 7.3 and in 7.4 regarding to the attached screenshot of Bob. This is if you do no action a long time some other users can do some changes during the time. So if you come back and the objects get not updated again you are not up2date with the settings. I had the same situation on my home asg with 7.450

That's incorrect Andreas.  There is no one else logged into my test ASG.  I reported this prior to the beta.  Something was different in 7.450.

Having to wait a full minute for a screen to appear is ridiculous!  At the very least, fix the code so that the screen I've clicked through to is refreshed first, then refresh the rest of the stuff in the background.

Bob, I don't think andreas worded it clearly. What he means to say is that just in case somebody else made any changes to astaro (from a remote machine)while your session is idle, it refreshes webadmin to make sure you are getting the most recent settings after some period of time.

Billybob, d'ya mean that guy "Q" from an alternate universe who can login to WebAdmin without the Astaro realizing it and change stuff without the logs recording it? Yeah, we need to be protected from that... [;)]

Lol... I think he means that Bob and billybob both stare at their webadmins all day. Then in his usual fashion, billybob tinkers with the firewall without telling anybody. While Bob is looking at the same screen in his office and clicks on something the webadmin caches the stuff for a minute or two to reflect the changes that billybob has made.

Remeber v7 allows multiple remote logins at the same time, so even if the scenario above never took place, the possibility of it still exists. That is why webadmin caches just to make sure that you are getting a fresh copy of the system configuration.

But, if the re-caching were time-based, then two admins could step on each other's changes.  So, it's logical to assume that there must be a flag that flips when there are two or more users connected to WebAdmin.  If one of the admins makes a configuration change, the others get re-cached.

Something like this had to be one of the things that was done to facilitate multi-user WebAdmin.  There's no excuse to force re-caching if no changes are made.

LOL, I think you will have to make that into a feature request[:D]

If it's confirmed by Astaro that re-caching is time- not event-based, please ignore the sound of me hitting my head against the wall...
