Hi, I have a number of entries in the static DNS table, why aren't these picked up and used in the reports seeing the IP address translation is supposed to be using the DNS entries?
Hi Bob, I have some of my local devices in the statis DNS. They are entered as mydevice.fw1-on-house.dnsalias.net with the local IP address. The entries are resolved when used in the definitions table. But in reports they show with the IP address and host name as n/a.
I don't think the Astaro does reverse DNS for the entries in it. I think that would be a feature request at present.
I get that from our internal DNS server and an entry in 'Request Routing' of '1.2.10.in-arpa.addr->[DNS Server]'. (Thanks to BarryG who suggested that trick here in April.)

The problem is that if they add all that functionality, you are running a full fledged DNS server instead of a caching server with limited functionality and thus inherit all the bugs that come with dns servers.
The objective is to have as much functionality as possible without exposing yourself to inherent weaknesses of certain protocol/server. Otherwise you will be patching your firewall like you patch a regular OS every month for security vulnerabilities.
