[7.460][INFO] Installation Failed

I started a thread a couple weeks ago saying the checksum was slow.  I confess, I am using very old hardware.  

So I purchased a $300 Dell Vostro 220.  Intel Pentuim Dual-Core E5200 (2.5 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800 FSB), 1GB RAM 250GB HD.

I went to install 7.5 beta from the CD I used on the old machine.  After hitting F8 (Have you read everything correctly) and choosing English (USA), I get a message "Installation Failed  Please remove CD-ROM and restart system".

I have also tried the nosmp and classic options to try to get past this with no success.

Any ideas?

    what message u r getting ,did u check install log while it is getting installed (alt+f2,alt+f3,alt+4),is u r cd rom is sata or ide ?

    Chances are the chipset on that new PC is too "new"... Astaro generally doesn't support "bleeding edge" or the newest chipsets until they've been out a while.  Check the HCL and get a machine that uses a chipset on that list.

    Sorry I didn't see your reply until now...

    Log says:
     umount: /dest//sys: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//proc: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//boot: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//opt/inst: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//var/storage: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//var/log: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//tmp: No such file or directory
     umount: /dest//: Invalid argument

    The machine came with no OS, I was able install Fedora Core 10 (nov 2008 build) on it.  Then tried Astaro - same error (above).

    Also, the CPU Pentium E5200 is not in the HCL

    HD - SATA 
    CD - SATA

    BIOS SATA mode - ACHI

    From the log, I'm guessing it isn't recognizing your SATA controler.

    Try seeing if you can set the BIOS to a different mode.

    I would think it would most likely be to do with AHCI, there should be an option in BIOS like BarryG said to set it to a different mode such as IDE.

    I tried changing BIOS "SATA Mode".  Of the three options (ATA, RAID, AHCI), I have tried ATA and ACHI, I don't have RAID.

    It looks like I just purchased a backup for my web server instead of a firewall server. [:(]

    I am now at least $500 into this "free firewall" (Computer that isn't compatible, I needed a monitor with the old computer, two ethernet boards) and it still things aren't working too well.  

    I never got internal DNS working (another thread), internal network traffic is horrible, but external works well, I had to open all traffic to my web server until my new computer was available, because things kept breaking and I needed to reinstall Astaro about once a week (beta), email would stop sending reports after I reboot the computer (until the next reinstall).  I was *hoping* the new computer would clear up some or all of these issues.  I am admittedly a programmer - not hardware, or Network Admin, but it shouldn't be this difficult.  [:)]

    My old Netscreen (now Juniper) died when I tried this product around February.  I tried this product to avoid spending $500 - $800 on a firewall.  I just ordered a new Juniper firewall and will abandon this product.

    Hi,
    the problem is more than likely your hardware is too new. A number of us had to wait until 7.400 ISO was released before we could use our low power hardware.
    ASG works very well on older hardware, a number of users have it running on PIII with 512mb of ram. So if you have an older server with a P4 older model, 1gb of ram and ide disk you will find that the ASG will work well.
