I would probably answer 'ifconfig' & 'route' are deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. Instead you should use 'ip'.

I really do not understand your question. You will find many tools on the ASG where the version is not updated but we are using the current version. So I also do not understand what it the question or problem.
