[7.450][BUG][NOTABUG] Installation Fails on System Currently Running 7.402

This is an old PC that has been running 7.402 and previous releases for years. Downloaded the ISO and the SHA/MD check was fine. Burned a CD. Swapped the production hard drive with another drive. Started the installer. Got to the point where there is a file integrity check and after a few minutes there is a message about "installation failed." Attempted this install two more times with the same result.

Also tried the alternative APIC and SMP installs without success.

Perhaps the hard drive is bad.

Is there an install log I can read to find out why there is a failure?

I know its time to upgrade my PC but I'm waiting for Astaro to run on an energy-efficient "plug" PC. The Astaro box runs 24x7x forever so I want to save kilowatts.

I had the same problem and ended up redownloading the iso. I must have gotten a bum download.

The most common problem is that the ISO doesn't get correctly burned, but I have heard of your problem, too, Calasak.

md5sum is a good way to check that the download is OK.

also, try imgburn if you use windows, I had two "install failed" with the disc burnt with nero before I switch to imgburn.

Thanks for the hints about using Alt-F3/4 during the install. The hard drive said it was 40 gigs on the label (plenty of room for the Astaro software). Turns out that this was an older drive that once was in a Tivo. The drive would get locked and in that condition it would only report that it had less than 9 gigs. The Astaro install gave an error message viewable by Alt-F3/4 about a drive error. This was the clue I needed. Strangely the main install windows just said "install failure." I found an old utility to unlock the drive and the install worked flawlessly.
