I am testing this on a dual p3 1Ghz machine with 1GB ram. I don't have any load on the system at all and usually it has been chugging along with about 40-45 percent memory usage under 7.40x on the dashboard. This version makes that memory jump to around 65% on dashboard.
With this new snort, dual procs mean 2 instances of snort (I am sure that will be the case with dualcore cpu's also). Each using 92mb residential and 123mb virtual. I realize that astaro is using the memory cap directive but with the search method set to ac-bnfa compared with lowmem for older versions, memory usage might be an issue later on with low end machines.
Maybe a switch in webadmin that lets you toggle high performance vs econo mode? That way 1 or 2 instances can be activated depending on the selection and let the users decide what they want? How many rules are activated with each button is also a welcome change.
The performance on the other hand is awesome and the server load is actually less with 2 instances during heavy downloads. I guess ac-bnfa is the way to go[:D]
