Did you use "E1000" or 'flexible" nic types?

I just installed 7.5 in VMware (ESXi 4.0) using "flexible" type NICs.

The http d/l throughput dropped by 75% as compared to the identical configuration running on an older P4 server without vmware.  I have not tried the E1000 NICs yet to see if that is any better.

I had this problem with the 7.4 vmware image as well although that was worse by 50% over 7.5 in VMware.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test reports over 5MB down speed, but d/l files via http I average about 80kb/s (the first maybe 15 seconds reports 180kb/s but then steadily drops to 80).  However, just turning off the http proxy does not appear to completely fix it.  The same d/l settles at 110kb/s

Do any of you VMware users also see this drop in http d/l performance?

I can use my full bandwidth (approx. 350 kb/s) running ASG in VMware Server 2.0.1.

Hmm, perhaps it is an ESXi 4.0 problem.  The same speedtest running on the P4 machine reports 11mb down.

I have noticed a big performance difference between the new VMXNET3 interface and the regular VMXNET.  Maybe ESXi 4.0 is tuned for the new nic at the expense of the older one.
