ASG 7.500 Beta Contest

ASG BETA 7.500 is now available. For detailed information and ISO download links, read the 7.500 Up2Date Blog posting.
In order to give you a good reason to install, test and use the ASG 7.500 BETA version, Astaro is holding a small bug reporting contest for UBB users. Here is how it works:

Please report bugs in this forum by opening a new thread. Include the BETA version number and a small synopsis in the thread title. For example:

[7.450] INFO: WebAdmin speed too fast to keep up with!

Use the following syntax:
[Version#] BUG/INFO/QUESTION/etc.: Issue

For each bug you report, we'll award a number of "points". How many depends on how much useful information you include in your report. So please include as much information as possible. You should at least describe your configuration and what the effect of the bug is. Including log file snippets, tcpdumps, screenshots and other helpful items may get you additional points. Hint: Bug reports along the line of "It does not work, please help" will probably not score any points.
You can report any bug you find, however it must be a "new" bug (one that is not already filed in our internal issue tracker). We'll keep track of the found bugs in this posting. Please check the list below before reporting. Also the Astaro Mods are the final instance in report evaluation. Please do not start discussions about the fairness of the process.

When the BETA phase ends, the three top UBB bug reporters will receive a brand new Nintendo DSi gaming console as well as Amazon Gift cards, valued EUR 300 for first place, EUR 200 for second place, and EUR 100 for third place. For non-EU national winners, we'll try to get gift cards in your local currency. Failing that, you'll get a card for amazon.com, in US dollars. Depending on overall participation, comment quality, posting activity, and other discretionary factors, participants will receive upgrades to their Home User Licenses from 10 IP's to 50 IP's.

US ftp2 is fast for me right now... maxing out my 10mbps connection

I received the following error message upon an attempted installation of ASG 7.5  on an asus board  intel chipset/P35/G33/G31 With  Intel PD 3.4 Ghz  i have also failed on  a pc chips amd am2 board with 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200

while attempting  to install ASG 7.5 on both of these machines  i receive the following message

MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC

kernel panic not syncing boot with apic=depug and record output (does not work)

i have tried the classics option, noapic to no avail

does anyone have any clues.

My research indicates that this is an issue with the current Linux kernel

Seems like my only working asg box will stay running on my Intel P4 HT 3.2 Ghz cpu machine. seems like this is a kernel issue targeted towards dual core  cpus

I had similar issue once when installing other linux, i think I got pass that by putting "noapic noioapic nolapic" as kernel option. You might want to give a try

maybe try turning off APCI in Bios if it did got the option to - or try disabling other problematic settings like hyperthreading and so on.

Hi Christoffer,

you will have to do a clean install but you will be able to import your settings from 7.403. More details are here (scroll down nearly to the bottom - Download).

Here's to hoping this changes, eventually. Given that I live on the wild side, I actually gave away my last remaining CRT monitor, thinking I could live off of manual up2date upgrades. For the past year or so, I've successfully avoided any need to plug anything into my headless firewall machine. Call me stupid, or selfish, or both, but I don't want to have to buy another monitor just to install 7.5 (or the betas).

I've got a 15" LCD with a DVI and VGA inputs; DVI goes to the firewall and VGA to the webserver.

KVMs are another option.

the beta version solved my problems with versjon 7.403 [:)]
seems like less resource use asswell.
Any other experience with this?

The new futures in the beta 7.450 are very nice. But i miss the feature
Reporting: VPN Avtivity and i miss a timerule for IPSEC tunnels.

Hi !

I have some quastions about beta

1) if there is bug in 4.50 and it has been fix (given bug number) and reported again should we report that bug

2) beta points valid till which date for all beta update (4.50>4.60>4.??) all points are same

Intel Pentium D 3.4 gHZ 2GB DDR2 Ram
Asus motherboad
onboard lan is an Atheros based chip so that ofcourse isnt detected in Linux as of now.
I have a pci express gigabit broadcom adapter -Lan interface
pci 3com gigabit for the wan
pci intel fast ethernet for the dmz

Been up and running with no issues.. I am a huge fan of Astaro.. I am currently talking my CFO into allowing me to purchase ASG and replace our existing firewall..

I will keep all posted
