[7.395] Strange CPU graphs

When I logged out of webmin, postgres started chewing CPU again... I think something's wrong here.

Seems like a problem we had some time ago. How does your RAM-/Pagefile usage look like?

RAM is always below 500MB out of 768MB; swap is 5-10MB.

do you use any kind of P2P Software (or permanent download)? My ''personal conclusion'' for this kind of strange behaviour it's very simple:

Tons of traffic + Accounting means a lot of CPU usage increasing during the day and it stops at midnight when the accounting process resets and starts again.

I had a similar case and I just took some recent graphs. They look very similar to the one that you provided, right? [:D]

Yes, I have about 200kbits of P2P traffic running most of the time.

I suspected that it might be accounting, but ISTM it shouldn't use that much CPU.
(I know my CPU is relatively slow.)

What CPU are you using Suzzy?

FWIW, version 6 doesn't do this with the same traffic.

I may have to completely disable accounting on our 7.306 system if this happens when it goes live, as it is also on a slower system (dual PIII 1GHz).

the graphs belongs to an ASG1x0 System. [;)]

My personal advice would be diasable the accounting or search for a faster Hardware (try: www.ebay.va) [:D]

Yes, in production, we will be moving our DL145 to replace the PE1550 as soon as we can; the PE1550 is just temporary while we move.

Nonetheless, if an Astaro appliance is using a lot of CPU, it seems like it could be an issue.
How old is yours?

Barry, I just picked up an HP DL380 G4 dual 3.4GHz XEON with 4GB and no hard drives (have some) for under $300 including shipping.  It's actually to replace our Small Business Server so we can get rid of the tape drive and just backup to USB hard drives (G4s have USB 2.0).

There are some great deals on the DL360 G4s also.  They, like the DL145, just take two drives (it's 1U), but they also can have dual hot-swap power supplies.  As you know, the neat thing about the ProLiants is that they do RAID in the controller instead of using software.  Configure two drives in RAID 1+0 and you have an incredible base for running Astaro.

I wanted to get a DL365, but we didn't have the budget for it, and we're not allowed to buy used unless there's no alternative.
