[7.386] IP licensing - possibly?

IIRC, It's supposed to update every night, unless you have an unlimited license.

I've seen the same thing with the licensing daemon on production systems... so long as it doesn't stop things from working, it's no big deal... not sure why it doesn't work on some systems, though.

Are you saying the 204.x.x.x IPs are behind the firewall?  I don't know what to say about that, all the testing I've done is using IANA RFC private IP ranges behind the firewall... I suspect something is triggering because of the public IPs.

That's correct - old habits die hard.  I personally HATE NATting if I don't have to.  Those are publicly routable IPs that I've got.  The part that I was curious about was that this hasn't been a problem in older versions, so I wasn't sure what changed in the beta (or maybe it's a configuration change).

Bruce, we use public IPs (an entire Class C ) on version 6.3, and what Hubersan describes has never happened to us, although we DO get scanned all of the time.

I strongly suspect it's a bug in the 7.4 betas.

I'd be happy to do some more scans against my 6.3 if anyone wants.

I admit, this could be a problem...

Although I'm being forced against my will to NAT our new install, our old network is not NAT'd at all... we're using the Class C that our ISP gave us, internally and externally (there's a transfer network on the outside, which routes everything else inside).

Even if you NAT, someone on INT could scan the DMZ subnet, and you'd have the same problem.

To anyone trying to test this: note that you won't see the extra IPs in the license count until the next day.

Can we get an answer or confirmation from Astaro that they're aware of or going to look into this soon?

I'm very interested in 7.4 for the new load balancer, but I cannot upgrade if the license counting is broken.

FWIW, I'm NMAP'ing my DMZ at home right now; I'll see if it increases the IP count.

Normally we only count flows that passed the device and packets have been sent in both directions.

My Astaro DMZ interface's IP. I was recently using it for a virtual loadbalancer IP, fwiw.
My understanding is the Astaro IPs should never be counted.

I ran some nmap scans against my DMZ today, but I believe I have to wait til tomorrow to see the licensed IPs upated.

Well, my NMAP scans have failed to affect the license count (good).

Hopefully Hubersan can provide more information about the problem he's having.

I should point out that I can't test a non-natted network like he has with current versions; the only non-natted network I have is on version 6.3.

On mine, it's listing every IP in my subnet, including the 'zero' subnet IP and broadcast IPs.  There's absolutely nothing on 20 of the 31 IPs, so there should be nothing to return a packet from.

Hubersan, can you try pinging or running NMAP on some of those addresses from outside your network?

there should only be clients from any LAN "behind" ASG? Because my test-systems lists dozens of forreign IPs including 0.0.0.0 and the ASG's external IP-address.

I just checked and it's like this on almost every ASG I manage.
BTW: The Top-Client #1 is always the ASG's external address. That's been bothering me for a while now.

What's the sense behind this, I can't see it.

I now have another nonsense IP showing up in my licensing on 7.390:
10.0.0.14
That would be on my DMZ network, but I don't have anything with that IP, and in fact, my only server (10.0.0.10) has not been on for awhile.

I have no idea where this is coming from; I didn't nmap that address (I did nmap 10.0.0.0/30 which would not have gone that high).

Gert, I know you want me to check my accounting, but I can't as it appears my computer is too slow.
Regardless, neither IP is in the weekly or daily exec reports.

So if Client A requests a http-website through the http-proxy than this traffic is added to the account of the ASG rather than to that of Client A?

Technically speaking I see the logic behind it but on the other hand that's not the information I want (especially when I'm an executive :-)

Yes.

I believe you can look at the proxy section of the reports to get the information you need.
