[7.305 - 7.386] Can't download from NetGear

Not sure I would call this a bug or just something that's aggravating.
 
Today I tried to download a firmware update for my NetGear Router but the download just hung until it timed out with the error; "A connection to the server could not be established"
 
I tried the download on a system that routes through my ASG 7.305 server and the same thing happened.
 
I then bypassed the ASG 7.386 Box and connected straight to the router and I downloaded the file with no problems.
 
I reconnected through the ASG and turned on the FTP Proxy and I could download the file.
 
On NetGear's site, most of the download links point to their FTP site, dowloads.netgear.com.
 
Shouldn't the ASG throw an Error or Block Page stating that FTP is not allowed if the FTP Proxy isn't turned on?
Maybe this could be an enhancement request?

    By default, all traffic is DROP'ed...

    To make things a little easier, you can add a rule AT THE BOTTOM which instead says
    from Internal Network(s), to ANY, REJECT, LOGGING ON

    This will immediately send a reject packet to the client instead of the traffic being silently dropped, and the client will usually show 'connection refused' or something to that effect.

    My point was that I had no idea that the downloads were from an FTP site.
     
    I though something was wrong in the file extension filter but only after turning on the 'Status Bar' in IE did I see that it was from an FTP site.
     
    Made troubleshooting very difficult.
