[7.385] clarification or bug ? uplink interface when not active ?

Hi,

just need clarification about the use of uplink interface when uplink is not (yet) activated ?

If I use uplink interface in several areas (like policy routing, network definitions...) which real interface is really used ?
Does this should not be hidden when not configured/active ?

and last seems there are areas where this is not available like static routing for interface route... (whereas this is present into policy routing) is this a bug (maybe should not be present in policy routing ?) ?

    AFAIK, the uplink interface is the one with the default route. If there is no default gateway available, the object for uplink interface is unresolved. That means you can still use it for definitions etc, but they won't work until the interface comes up and as soon as the object becomes resolvable, your rules apply.

    but what about static routing and policy routing ? why does this available for policy routing and not for static routing ?

    There is no specific reason [:)]. But since you can achieve the same goals with policy routing that you can with static routing, it doesnt really matter. Just use policy routing then.

    Perhaps the devs decided to do so because people expect static routing to be really static. The uplink interface is in fact dynamic.

    Uplink interface has been introduced because of failover feature to get the currently used device.
