Is this beta forum still being monitored by astaro

Still being monitored (check my posts), but its unlikely that we will see another v7.400 beta release.

There seem to be some fresh answers of Astaro engineers, but neither the scorelist nor the thread titles have been updated for a very long time..

So what you are saying is the next release will more than likely be RC1?

This would have to be one of the longest betas ever for Astaro.

v7.400 has many many internal changes and improvements under the hood - not only the new features you may have noticed. That forces us to re-test almost anything thats possible. This is one of the most important releases for us, ever.

I also doubt there will be a release candidate but thats not up to me.

I'm also still there, returned from holiday yesterday. I'll try to get around to do some forum work this week.

Thanks for your posts guys, I have been away from the forum for a month and thought that may be I was too late to the party as my 3 postings below have gone unanswered. I hope you can find the time to add a quick yes or no to them.

This is one of the most important releases for us, ever.

But then I'd rather increment the main version number, that is 8.0 in this case, than call it 7.4 [[;)]]

I think that I speak for all the testers when I say that we'd be more than happy to help put the most recent build (asg-7.385-090112-1.iso?) through its' paces if you give us access. [:)]
 
Kind of difficult to know where we're at with a build that's over a month old.  Creates a large disconnect between the testers and developers, since we're each working off of fairly different code bases at this point I would guess.  I'd hate to see 7.400 go GA and have some big issue crop up that could have been caught by the testers pounding away for a week or two on RC code.
 
Just my 2 cents though.

It's been Astaro's practice for bug-fixing to continue for previous versions when going from V5 to V6 or from V6 to V7, but not for V7.2 to V7.3.

When V7.0 showed itself to be a resource hog in specific environments, it was important to me that some of my clients could remain on V6 and that bugs in it would continue to be addressed.  If the developers truly are making dramatic changes that might cause many sites to want to postpone upgrading, then I hope the next version is V8.000 instead of V7.400.

FWIW, I agree with Scott, especially if the version is V7.400.  If the developers will give us an RC1, we'll install it and use it internally prior to the general release.

When very busy fixing bugs, we internally generate 1-2 of builds like that a day. You'll never get one of these for beta testing. Every release, beta or final, is roughly tested by QA first (finals more thoroughly of course). You see, throwing out those builds to UBB users would only generate a lot of, erm, lets call it "overhead".

It is also important when doing tests, that we have a common base. It leads to nothing but chaos testing different builds here and there. People here even use another beta while testing our product beta (The guy with that Safari beta for example).
