Download speed test

Doing a little download speed test using the DSL Reports site....

Using my laptop (Dell Core 2 @ 2ghz with 2 GB ram using the onboard NIC running Windows XP w/SP3) I get a download speed as per DSL Reports of 618 when running through the Astaro Gateway. If I connect my laptop directly to my cable modem I get a download speed as per DSL Reports of 1257. The upload speed was virtually the same for both connection methods. I thought that my hardware that the Astaro is running on may be the issue (old Dell Server P4@1.7 with 1 GB ram and a pair of DLink 10/100 NICs). I did the test again while I monitored the Dashboard of the Gateway on another system and found that the CPU usage went up to 12% and the Ram was in the low 60%....This leads me to believe that the speed penalty is not from the Gateway hardware but due to the scanning/processing that the Gateway is doing. 

Has anybody else noted a loss of download speed when your traffic is running through the Gateway? It would be interesting to have a few people test this out to see if their results match mine or if they have totally different results.

    Do the test a few times, with a few different servers, to make sure it wasn't just a fluke.

    You can try turning off the IPS/P2P/IM security in Astaro, but that's unlikely to slow things down that much.

    Also, are you using the http proxy? In transparent mode?

    I expect a nominal loss of performance in flash applications like speed tests, videos and such going through the proxy.

    With all this circumvented my performace for data flow has not been degraded the slightest.

    My system stats barely fluctuate and this is even virtualized on an ESXi host.

    I do not see anything out of the ordinary with this release on that in my testing of 7.380.
