I have been using a Lex machine, which is Via C3 based and has 3 10/100 ethernet ports for a while now.
The machine has always served well under 6.3, 7.x to 7.305.
I started installing 7.400 beta (7.350 cd image) yesterday, and went through it completely without any problems.
When finalising, I inserted my latest backup, and found the machine kept running in 100% and consumed about half more memory as before with the same config. I normally run into 45-55% of the installed 512MB, but now it kept using 75-90% constantly.
All of a sudden, I lost contact to the webadmin page, and heard a beep. The system restarted, just like that. No message, no warning, a complete reset like someone pushed the non-existing reset button on the front of the box.
I thought it was a post-restore reboot or something like that, to load all settings and convert them, and decided to wait for the box to come back alive.
The restart in fact kept on going. No time to log in through ssh, webadmin running fine but slow, and the machine having the frequent restart every 5 minutes after the 5 'I'm OK' beeps. I have no idea why, no messages on the console, no means to get in the box, and the ping reply statistics went over 2seconds which is rather long, no?
Well, I'll assemble another machine, with a bit more power. I assume it's all because of being run on a Via C3 with 'only' 512MB RAM and a 40GB IDE disk...
If there is anyone experiencing the same problems, please let me know if I can do something about it. The Lex machine is a nice small, silent and power-easy box which I would like to keep on using if possible.
Thanks
