further investigation shows that it's pictures who are slow in displaying in your web browser. normal text etc is fine.

I am experiencing the same slowness and from log output, the only thing I see the browser downloading are image files.  I even set a bypass to exempt a site, turn off AV and still slow, slow, slow traffic.

I also have to auth at least a couple times to SSL sites.
