[7.180] support for PAE kernel [FEATURE REQUEST]

I've 4G RAM on my 2 Astaro firewall and as you are using x86 system you must active PAE support into the kernel else only 3.2G RAM are reconized as free shows here:

             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       3370032    1288056    2081976          0     438324     395356


Do you plan to add support for PAE ?

    Just curious... does the benefit from having an extra 20% more RAM offset the performance hit from using PAE?

    if you have either 500 users with everything on or 750 to 1k users trust me the ram comes in handy.  Just with 5 machines here i can run into memory issues with my machine with what i use.  I have another firewall with 15 machines and 768 megs of ram that is pushing the limits on that box.  1 gig is really the minimum for Astaro so for large users counts or high traffic 4 gigs is not unreasonable.  IMO instead of using the memory paging of PAE astaro should just move to 64 bit.  Most open source packages work just fine in a 64 bit environment and there's no memory paging performance hit either.

    Agree that 1GB ram ist better than 512Meg, and 2Gb would be nice.

    But i also have following boxes running:

    Old ASG with 256Ram on 6.3xx with 100user -> no Problem
    ASG220V2 w. 512MB on 7.104 with > 100 User -> no Problem
    ASG320 w 1GB ram on 7.104 with > 200 User + 5 Webservers (shop) -> no problem
    noName Server w 1GB Ram on openSource/self written Firewall with > 100 User -> no Problem

    We are speaking about a Firewall not about a Terminal/Citrix Server.
    4GB should be enough

    I'm speaking about firewalls with big customers site behind... we are using it in ISP/ASP mode..

    I've about 80 customers behind that firewalls... We are hosting resorts companies, (hotels, mobile-homes, ...)

    and some customers get about more than 2000 connections per seconds... (most of the day)..

    And we need IPS and anti-spam/anti-virus... so CPU+memory is probably needed... Initially we wanted to have dedicated boxes for IPS and dedicated box for anti-spam/anti-virus... but we wanted to have a try with 2 all in one boxes...

    We have bought 2 DELL with 8G initially to have Astaro used in active/passive mode (set up is on its way but waiting for a big bug to be fixed before going further)... and we will bought the active/active mode soon... as actually only 3.2G is supported we removed the 4G extra memory...

    that's why I think we need PAE support soon...
