When joining the system to AD, the online help says:
Make the following settings:
Domain: NetBIOS name of the domain (in Microsoft jargon also known as pre-Windows 2000 name).
However you can not use the NetBIOS name, since the system does a DNS request for the domain controller, not a broadcast.
You must use the FQDN of the domain.
