Post V6.834 problems

I've been using V7 since the first public beta in November.  Unfortunately, I'm stuck at v6.834.  Up2dates (and fresh installs from later ISOs) run fine, but won't allow me to initiate any outbound connections.  I've used a backup of my config from v6.834 which is working fine, so I don't believe the problem is related to my config.

My external interface is connected to a DSL modem which requires PPOE.  The interface is listed as up and reports an IP.   When I attempt to ping anything on the Internet from the firewall (WebAdmin - Support->Tools->Ping Check) I receive no reply.  

Has anyone else encountered this problem?
