[6.915] HTTP Proxy runs badly after update

Hi all,
I tested it right now on my private ASG110 without any problems (transp. mode)  and QA was also not able to find something...

Please give us more details about your config, client system, logfiles....

(BTW: "performance of the entire firewall has just dropped considerably" is nonsens, we didn't change a major part of the system, neither introduced a new feature/process nor tried to optimize something.)

I tested on an AMD 2 GHz PC with 1 GB RAM. I configured HTTP Proxy as standard but Iread that it also happens in Transparant mode. I didn't did any changes to the config. When I don't use http proxy everything working fine. So there must be something in the HTTP Proxy.

Is this issue occuring 
if the http proxy is enabled, but caching turned off 

or only
if the http proxy is enabled, but caching turned on ?

Tried it with and without cache. I cleared both ASG and Firefox caches, restarted the ASG and the performance was no better. But, squid went ballistic before the restart and occupied 93% approx of the CPU.
Would appear as though squid doesn't like having the cache cleared without a restart.

Downloaded the 908 ISO and have just finished installing it. The web usage just wasn't reliable to leave 915 in place, users were getting grumpy. A grumpy wife is not a pleasant sight when she can't get to her e-mail or forums.

I wondered why i couldn't reproduce this issue, now i know:

I tould my proxy to work in transparent mode, but in transparent mode it does nothing. It works like no proxy is enabled.  That means every kind of http virus is passing the firewall undetected !

After switching to standartmode the viruses are detected again but i've got cpu usage of 100%

i did the following:
disabled the cache
cleared the cache
deleted http configuration (allowed networks, exceptions ect)
disabled http cache

reboot

enabled http again
configured http again (only allowed networks)
after applaying configuration the proxy state went from yellow to red instead to green
enabled http once again

reboot

Now proxy seems to work (i will enable caching later again)

Before everyone goes off on the original poster, I have the same or similar problems...

White browser pages rather than content, browser thinks it is done.  I have this problem with Firefox 2.0.0.1, Minefield (20061222) and IE7, so it does not appear to be browser related. In all cases, if I click the refresh three times (and say "there's no place like home..."), I can get the page to load. Three times seems to be the magic number, for some strange reason (pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...). It does not seem to be related to any specific site, so it has not been something repeatable.  Sometimes a site will do it, sometimes not.

I have also seen the 100% CPU utilization occur, at least once.

One thing I have noticed, my swap file usage seems to have disappeared between 6.908 and 6.915

If someone would define what info they need, I will be more than willing to provide it.  I find V7 to be a tremendous improvement over V6.   I would classify the click, click, click bug as "really, really annoying", but given the other feature improvements, am not yet willing to switch back to V6.

I did the same as KoC and it works now!!! Also when HTTP Caching is activated it give the same issues as I described before. So I think it's a bug in the HTTP Caching.Did someone else (who had the same problems) enabled HTTP Caching and it worked??? Please let me know.

Hmm, after further testing I found out that it DOESN'T work for all pages [:(] But 80-90% for all pages.So it's not solved yet.....

I will still opt not to install that update until they resolve it.

Can someone tell me what version of Squid Astaro V7 (6.915) is using and compare it to the older beta versions. I am willing to bet they included the new 2.6 Version of Squid which has connection helpers for NTLM authentication (Something I have been wanting for V6 for a very long time [:D] ).

SQUID is still "Version 2.5.STABLE14" and we are not able to repdroduce the 100%CPU issue you reported and see only in some very rare cases a empy browser page. Its not that we ignore your reports, we are very busy to understand why and where this can happen...

Who is able get us access to his own V7BETA installation so we can see it real-live and install some debugging/test versions?

Unfortunately, I got really tired of having to keep clicking refresh, so I rolled back to 6.908.  I have not seen any "white screens" since...

I cannot tell if I am still having any memory issues, when I look at the reports, it says there is no data.  I have been back on 6.908 for about a week now, so something is amiss, I should have data.  The dashboard says I have 3% swap usage,  RAM utilization is at 56%.

You will probably need to clear your cache to get the stats to show after a move backwards.
Not all my stats show and as I have logged in my ongoing thread, some just magically turn up and others stay empty for most of the day, this is under 908.

i have the same problem. When using top on the console i see that squid take 93% op the cpu utilization.
I have this on ony one machine. Other machine in vmware runs fine.

after a lot of testing we finally found the issue that caused the 'empty white page' problem. We build a new RPM that should fix this issue:

Download and copy the rpm file to your ASG v7, and execute the following commands:

rpm -Uhv ep-httpproxy-1.1-104.i686.rpm
/var/mdw/scripts/httpproxy restart

I would really approciate feedback about your experience with this new version.

I pachted httproxy. I don't get the "white" pages! But it's very slow loading the pages [:(]
