CPU Usage 100%

Is there any info on high CPU usage?

I'm running a HP Vectra 400

PIII 1000 MHz
256 MB RAM
2 Intel Pro 100/s NICs
20GB Hard Drive

V6 was snappy... I realize this is a beta but my RAM usage is pegged out as well.

If I reboot the CPU sits at about 50% durning startup then drops to around 10% and then slowly increases until it just sits pegged out at 100%...

Any ideas?

    I had a similar issue, can you go to the command line and check what process is taking up the CPU time?

    I'd love to! How?!

    I know just enough about the linux command line to use "ls" and whatever other commands my genious brother tells me to type!

    I know microsoft very well but short of using Knoppix and a little bit of sUSE (GUI) I'm lost in a sea of secure crt text!

    I do know how to log in via the shell though!

    use top, it should give you a pretty good idea

    Ah, I just wiped and reloaded... I'm only running a very basic config... I think the config may have gotten corrupted by my turning everything on to see what it did and I have the feeling that some stuff didn't get turned off quite right even though the GUI said it was...

    It's pretty snappy now though!

    Thanks for the tips... if it gets out of hand again I'll post up some info.

    Well, I guess I was wrong!

    I wiped and reloaded the early morning of the 24th.

    Now my CPU usage is back up to 100% and my RAM usage is at 90%

    I have two NAT rules... a masq and a DNAT for my torrents and I have two packet filter rules...

    What's up?
