Feature Request: SQLNet Proxy

Hi,

SQLNet Proxy keeps track of connections and helps keeping the firewall "working", since oracle connections spawn on a huge portrange which have to be opened without it.
Oracle offers support on this i think.

Or are there any nice solutions for using oracle through ASL without opening up a tiny black hole?

    Hello,

    well, I do not have enough information about your environment. But there are several options you can set to control the ports used by  Oracle Net8 (e.g. via USE_SHARED_SOCKET, MTS_DISPACHERS/DISPATCHERS). See the following Oracle Metalink Documents for more information:

    But you are right there are other commercial firewalls that have an Application Level Proxy for Oracle Net8. So that feature request may just be an question of customer demand. IMHO such a feature normally is only used by Oracle customers which have Client/Server applications and in the last years a lot of such applications have been replaced by web-driven applications.
